$4.6 million available but not spent on classrooms!

Parents protest public school fees (OneNewsNow.com)

A report on OneNewsNow on the illegal fees being charged to students that attend Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. The report is from last year, but it still timely as MCPS continues to charge students to attend public school classes in violation of the Maryland State Constitution. Listen to the audio report on this issue here.

And don't forget that this summer, Superintendent Weast declared
$4.6 million
in Textbook and Instructional Supplies funding
SURPLUS
to the needs of your child's classroom.

That's $4.6 million in the MCPS Operating Budget that was allocated to Textbooks and Instructional Supplies that wasn't spent during the 2008-2009 school year.

$4.6 million would have worked out to an extra $33 per student. For a classroom of 25 students, that would have been an extra $825 per classroom teacher.

When you go to Back to School night this month ask your child's classroom teacher if he or she could use an extra $825 for classroom instructional supplies. And if they could use it, why aren't they lobbying the Board of Education for these funds to be spent as allocated!

Read all about the funds that were NOT spent on your child's classroom needs last year here.

This isn't the first year that Textbook and Instructional Supplies funding hasn't been spent as budgeted. Last year Superintendent Weast declared $6.6 million in Textbook and Instructional Supplies surplus!
