MCPS not interested in Race to the Top application

Baltimore Sun: Inside Ed  Montgomery County finalist for the Broad prize
...The award comes at a somewhat awkward time for education leaders around the state who are trying to persuade the county [Montgomery] to come around and support Maryland's application for Race to the Top...
...Maryland can hardly maintain that it will have unity among its school systems to carry out progressive, sometimes contentious reforms, if its biggest school district doesn't agree to sign on. Right now Montgomery isn't in the game.

  1. Since another state has noted it could enhance its chances in the second round by legislation providing for charter schools, thereby immediately adding 32 points to the state's score (http://bit.ly/bUSKix ), it's no wonder MCPS doesn't want to jump on that bandwagon. Their legislative platform is definitely against charter schools.
