Parents upset with the cost of graduation


...In the complaint letter, Mrs. Hurwitz challenges “the senior dues fee, ...[are] not authorized by the Board of Education under policy JNA,” adding that “it is contrary to the Maryland State constitutional right to a free public education.”
In a bid to compromise the concerns addressed by Mrs. Hurwitz and to reduce disruption to the planning and ceremony, Mr. Williams reduced the senior dues fee by $1, and has also agreed to assemble a committee of parents, students and staff to address ways in which they can eliminate or reduce the fee in the future. Not only that, but the Blair High School principal has determined that students who aren’t able to pay the $34 senior dues will still be able to attend their graduation.
