Guest Post: Wonders of a Competitive Bid Process for Artificial Turf

The wonders of a competitive bid process...
The Ankeny school board approved a contract for the Northview stadium field project Monday for phase one of the project. The board voted 6 to 0 to award the contract to Midwest FieldTurf for a just under $569,000. Board member George Tracy was not present.
The project came in under bid from the $800,000 district officials had budgeted for the project. Midwest FieldTurf has put in two fields for the Ankeny school district in the past.
Improvements will include replacing the natural grass field with a synthetic turf field complete with a drainage system, rock base, field electrical work and goal post replacement. Additional contract items will include using a premium synthetic turf product and adding a water system for both sides of the field.

They pay $569,000 for base + turf.  Montgomery County pays 2x that amount for the SAME THING.
