Tax Free Shopping Days Coming Up



Tax-free shopping days for school supplies, clothes, and sundries are coming up.

VIRGINIA – August 2-4

August 2-4, 2013: School Supplies and Clothing

During this three-day period, purchases of certain school supplies, clothing and footwear will be exempt from the Virginia sales tax. Each eligible school supply item must be priced at $20 or less, and each eligible article of clothing and footwear must be priced at $100 or less.  For details, visit Virginia's SchoolSupplies and Clothing Holiday page.  The sales tax rate in Virginia is usually 5.3%, 6% in some locations.

MARYLAND – August 11-17

The second Sunday of August to the following Saturday is designated as Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week each year. That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax. Accessory items are not included. The tax-free week for 2013 will occur Sunday, August 11, through Saturday, August 17.  For more details go here.  The sales tax rate in Maryland is 6%.
