  1. Most teachers have no problem identifying children who are in need of extra academic/social intervention. What is shared in this article is common knowledge. It would be more helpful, instead of wasting time on indicators of failure, to take the 21 million dollar surplus and hire additional teachers so that class sizes can be reduced to a manageable level. Then, and only then, teachers can give their students the instruction that they need and should have in MCPS. MCPS is expert at pin pointing problems in students and staff and masterful at doing very little to remedy existing challenges. Where is the plan to do something to help students who have been tracked to be dropouts? Consider the manner in which special ed students are treated in this county. MORE money to the lawyers is the MCPS way.

  2. Good luck in getting that to happen! MCPS and the BOE don't listen to anyone! No lecturing please on how teachers can change that. Teachers are close to powerless in the top-down system that currently exists.

    1. Teachers can change whatever they want to change. Read the Case Study.

The Epic Story of MCPS partnering with the teachers' union. It's the stuff dreams are made of, it is nationally heralded, it is ground breaking.

  3. Anonymous August 8th. I like how you worded the issue: "MCPS is masterful at doing very little to remedy the manner which Special Ed students are being treated. Indeed, more money goes to the lawyers." I have always accepted that Montgomery County, a noted progressive community, has made a sincere effort to meet such challenges. Personal experience has unfortunately taught me differently.
