Walter Johnson HS principal used student funds to pay for staff smartphone service

MCPS internal auditors are reporting that the Walter Johnson High School principal used student activity funds to pay for additional smartphone service for eight staff members.

The Independent Activity Fund, or IAF, is comprised of money that has been collected from students.

The complete audit report can be found at:

  1. Given this and the horrific yet similar situation at Rock Terrace ES, it's clear that MCPS has neither the policies or oversights in place to deal with how dedicated funds at public schools are spent. Why aren't Starr and the BOE getting in front of this and leading the way on guidelines that will prevent these abuses? Oh yeah, they're part of the problem of spending otherwise allocated funds on their own personal needs and desires. Besides, how can Starr and the BOE deal with this when they're in the middle of packing for the MABE conference in two days? Hello cell towers!
