ABC7: Only 2 states have no penalties for failing to report child sex abuse. Md. is one of them.

“There is no penalty if you fail to report,” said Maryland Senator Susan Lee (D-Bethesda). “I think we’re letting down the children that we’re trying to protect against abuse and neglect.”

Profound statement for the annals of human history.

  2. "Maryland lawmakers say they’re working to close a legal loophole."
Based on their track record, this will preoccupy the lawmakers the next fifty years.

  3. How can there be no penalty for non-reporting if certain people are mandatory reporters?

    1. How can that be? Please ask your legislators, especially Brian Frosh, Jamie Raskin and Bobby Zirkin who were on the Senate Judicial Proceedings committee for years blocking legislation that would have protected children.

Mandatory reporters without any penalty for non-reporting is obviously useless!
