School pleads for boxtops while MCPS executives feast at fancy restaurants

Olney Elementary School is asking residents to contribute food box tops to help fund programs for students.



Coming soon: Learn how a top MCPS administrator used his MCPS-issued American Express card to spend more money dining at a fancy restaurant in one evening than Olney ES has collected through the boxtop program this entire year.

  1. Not to belittle the title of this post, as it is an important one but look at the state of this picture at our public elementary school. Leaves are piled up, trash is lying around, some sort of landscaping was once done but we can now see the paper under the mulch coming up. Where are the maintenance people that are paid to take care of the school grounds? It doesn't take special training to pick up leaves and trash!
    Where is the school pride? And who is supposed to hold these employees responsible?

  2. Thanks for visiting from your planet. Here on earth, in Montgomery County, Maryland our public schools do not have landscapers. This week in particular has been very busy for maintenance workers as they have had to clear miles and miles of walkways to classroom trailers due to ice and snow.
    Public school "landscaping" is done by volunteers or paid for by PTA funds.

  3. Do MCPS administrators save their own Box Tops, and then donate them to schools that participate in this program?

    Do administrators register their own Giant, Safeway and Target cards so schools can receive rebates? Do they know that many restaurants give rebates to schools, if their credit or debit cards are registered with eScrip, the company that also runs Safeway's rebate program? Do they go thru eScrip to make their online purchases--including online travel reservations--so that schools will receive a percentage?

  4. Then I guess the MCPS recommended building cleaning document that advises to pick up litter and trash on a daily basis is another waste of tax payer dollars.

    Again, who is holding these builing maintenance personnel responsible? Obviously they aren't doing the job they were hired to do and we are funding thru tax dollars!
