...“As part of a homeland security grant a few years ago, public and private schools in Montgomery County received weather radios,” said Donna Bigler, assistant director of public information for Montgomery County. “I assume MCPS will participate in the NOAA drill tomorrow morning at 9:45, when the weather alert system will be tested.”
According to a spokesperson from Montgomery County Public Schools, MCPS did not participate in a statewide tornado drill, which was a highlighted part of the Severe Storms Awareness Week issued by Governor Martin O’Malley.
This comes after a record breaking high last year of 27 tornado touchdowns in the state. School systems around the state were encouraged by MEMA to hold tornado drills on Wednesday morning, test their tornado and/or sudden severe storm emergency plans and have students and staff react as if an actual tornado warning was issued...
