  1. Certainly not the largest of the expenditures listed with the article, but why did the principal of North Bethesda Middle School take $800 from the Independent Activity Fund to pay for a 220V outlet in the main office?

The Independent Activity Fund is STUDENT money and it's supposed to be used to support activities that directly support STUDENTS. It's not supposed to be used to pay for improvements to the electrical system of a school building.

  2. The students at North Bethesda Middle School also picked up the $8,000 tab for eight hand dryers, according to the Examiner article.

What are the students going to be paying for next? Classroom light fixtures? Lavatory sinks? The misuse of student money from the IAF at various schools seems to never end.

  3. The Board of Education has just approved a request from Westbrook Elementary in Bethesda to raise $247,000 towards various facility improvements at the school. Why isn’t that school mentioned in the article?

  4. BTW, Mr Leventhal has his information a little wrong about Wheaton. Wheaton DOES have a scoreboard for football and other stadium events. He may have received misinformation. Wheaton has a scoreboard for the baseball field BUT it hasn't worked for years. Wheaton probably could have raised the funds to fix it but it wasn't worth the cost since Wheaton has been slated for reconstruction for a few years now (finally happening this summer). They are breaking ground on the football/baseball fields and we will have away games for several years. Also if Mr Leventhal went to a game at the stadium it is possible the scoreboard didn't have an operator. Parent volunteers at Wheaton HS are few and far between.
