Breaking News: BOE Can't Produce Contract for Promethean Purchase

On December 11, 2012, the Board of Education (BOE) voted on a Resolution to purchase 2,000 Promethean brand Interactive white boards using a contract that did not cover the purchase.

Members of the Parents' Coalition immediately appealed the vote to the Maryland State Board of Education.  We also contacted the administrator for the contract the BOE resolution "claimed" would be used to purchase the 2,000 Promethean boards.

Here's what we found out from the MEEC Contract administrator:
The MEEC IT Hardware contract did not specifically include the Interactive White Boards by Promethean. An institution might buy one or two as peripherals included in a larger purchase. But those boards were not specifically included. Thanks
xxxxxxxxx University of Baltimore Director of Procurement
The MEEC contract that the BOE voted to use does not cover the stand alone purchase of 2,000 Promethean boards. We submitted that information to the Maryland State Board of Education as part of our Appeal.

Below is the BOE's response.  The BOE can not produce a contract for this purchase and, even if they don't have a valid contract the BOE claims it isn't illegal for them to vote on a resolution that is fake.
"Such a circumstance perhaps would make the County Board's action an ineffective one because the purchase could not be made, but it still would not make the County Board's action an illegal one."
Good to know.

    1. Don't worry. MCPS didn't got to a state agency to purchase these Promethean Boards. As the BOE attorney has alluded, the vote was fake. She says it's not illegal for the BOE to take a fake vote, so the public has no right to know how the 2,000 Promethean Boards were purchased.

  2. I'd just like to know why they were so hell bent on purchasing these things, and why from them? Who's getting the "kick back"?

    1. That's easy. We already know who got the London vacation from Promethean.
