Soccer Club Corp. STILL USING RM FIELD, Wants to Sub-Lease Also

Real Maryland Tryouts have been
 scheduled for the RMHS field.
Apparently, Superintendent Joshua Starr is easy to fool.  In his April 23, 2013, memorandum to the Board of Education (BOE), Superintendent Starr tells the BOE that the agreement with Maryland Soccer Enterprises to use the Richard Montgomery High School artificial turf field has been terminated and that the organization has no use for the field.

Here's what Superintendent Joshua Starr tells the BOE:
"It is our understanding that Maryland Soccer Enterprises, LLC has no planned use for the field."

Yet, plain as day, on the Real Maryland Soccer website is the use of the RM field by Real Maryland (the soccer club owned by Maryland Soccer Enterprises) in April and May! Long after the BOE supposedly "terminated" the agreement.

But, no matter.  On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, the BOE will unanimously vote to give a company, that is still using BOE land, the right to sublease the BOE land.

Whatever.

It's Montgomery County. No one pays any attention.

  1. Starr does not seem up to the job. Members of the BOE were thrilled when he took this $250,000 job. And now? Still thrilled?

  2. Maybe the BOE can use some of the lawyer fees they use to go after the kids with disabilities and divert some to go after Real Maryland....nah, kids are an easier target.

    1. The BOE has no intention of going after Real Maryland. They are trying their best to funnel money to them. They like Real Maryland and Maryland Soccer Enterprises.

The BOE does not like children.

    2. For those of you following this issue.

Maryland Soccer Enterprises owns Real Maryland. They dissolved that company.

Then Maryland Soccer Enterprises moved to having Future Soccer, Inc. use the field.

The BOE agreement was with Maryland Soccer Enterprises. It matters not which sub company or affiliate club of Maryland Soccer Enterprises is using the RM field under the BOE-Maryland Soccer Enterprises Agreement.

Maryland Soccer Enterprises still has use, and is using, the RM field.

The BOE Resolution is simply a way to break the original agreement and permit Maryland Soccer Enterprises to be able to sub-lease the RM field and profit from this public property. That's all.

  3. Artificial turf. Still not proven safe.
    ”Hazardous organic chemicals in rubber recycled tire playgrounds and pavers ” from January 2013, the authors analyzed 21 mulch samples from recycled tires and found that;

“The analysis confirmed the presence of a large number of hazardous substances including PAHs, phthalates, antioxidants (e.g. BHT, phenols), benzothiazole and derivatives, among other chemicals. The study evidences the high content of toxic chemicals in these recycled materials. The concentration of PAHs in the commercial pavers was extremely high, reaching values up to 1%. In addition, SPME studies of the vapour phase above the samples confirm the volatilisation of many of those organic compounds. Uses of recycled rubber tires, especially those targeting play areas and other facilities for children, should be a matter of regulatory concern.” http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0045653512009848

  5. BOE member Phil Kauffman was the only BOE member to oppose this sweetheart deal that MCPS has now admitted is of NO benefit to MCPS and not required by agreement.

  6. Confirmed. The information in this post was confirmed at the BOE today by MCPS staff James Song. The RM artificial turf field is still being used by the Real Maryland.
