...Board members aren’t the only people who hold school-issued cards. Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig said less than 20 top-level administrators also have credit cards with similar spending accounts. Tofig said in an email that these administrators have not suspended the use of their cards. Superintendent Joshua Starr has instructed the school system's attorney to assess the policides and procedures that govern the use of these credit cards, according to Tofig.
"That will take place in the near future," Tofig wrote.
Teachers and other school staff also have credit cards, but those are restricted to purchases of supplies or classroom needs, according to Tofig.
The Post reported that Kauffman said the panel’s work is exempt from open meetings law requirements. He said meetings pertaining to officials’ expense records and legal matters would be closed, but meetings focused on policy will be open “to the extent we can,” according to the newspaper.
The Parents’ Coalition of Montgomery County, a group that advocates for transparency in county schools, filed an Open Meetings Act complaint on May 31 with the Maryland attorney general’s office, which noted that the committee has already had two meetings in which minutes were not made available and public notices were not issued...
