5 PM on a Friday: Why do MCPS computers permit these sites to be viewed?

A message from KINGSVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred during school today. This morning multiple students reported that a substitute teacher had looked at inappropriate material on the computer while students were in class. The substitute teacher was covering Ms. XXXXXX's classes yesterday and today.

As a result of this report, we immediately removed the substitute teacher from the classroom, and we are working with the MCPS Office of Technology to investigate the situation. During the investigation, the substitute teacher will not be returning to Kingsview Middle School. I am very proud of the students who reported this information, and it underscores the importance of ensuring that our students know to tell a staff member immediately if they see or hear anything of concern.

Thank you for your continuing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 301-601-4611.

Sincerely,

Jimmy D'Andrea
Principal

  2. The students have to be the adults. Why are we increasing the school budget again?

    1. And what about other MCPS schools-can he teach at those?

    2. Yes. MCPS only removes substitutes from the school that complains about the person. They are free to sub at all other schools. This is a fact. We have MCPS documentation to show this.

    3. Is this an MCPS policy that has been approved by the BOE?

    4. You are kidding right? The Board of Education hasn't updated their Child Abuse Policy since 1988! They couldn't give a hoot about what goes on in schools.

    5. This is the school system that Montgomery County citizens want. They vote back in these Apple Ballot selected candidates over and over and over. Citizens want no oversight and want a public school system that favors sexual abuse of students over keeping students safe. That's the system we have in this county. If parents are concerned about keeping their children safe when they go to school they should be looking at other school systems.

  4. I agree, their priorities lie with raising the SAT scores all expense.

  5. Has anyone looked into the substitute's background. What is the current vetting procedure for Administrators, teaching staff, substitutes and support staff (maintenance, custodial, etc.)?

    1. Good question. But, what we do know is that a substitute can be caught looking at inappropriate material at one school, removed from that school's substitute list, and still remain on the master MCPS list of substitutes. That we know for sure. Documentation will go up Monday.

    2. This is horrendous and must be fixed... or we should "fix" our BOE and superintendent.

  6. Dear Anonymous @ 1:34 PM,

You must be looking for the "Blame the Student" webpage. Sorry! Keep looking. This isn't it!

If you want to see the result of recent trials and plea agreements and track upcoming trials of MCPS staff, teachers, and contractors who have been arrested for sexual abuse of students, rape or related crimes, click on this link.
