I don't mean to be funny but if Jesus is scrubbed from the calendar, should we not scrub the, Veterans, MLK, no presents on Hanukah, no fasting on Ramadan,
ReplyDeleteLet's keep our military, God and all the holidays off the calendar.. .It will give the hidden sex offenders more time to act out on an expanded schedule.
Don't forget ALL the federal holidays as well in order to make our students competitive in the global economy and erase the national debt.
DeleteThe issue of recognizing Muslim holidays is an equity issue, not only for Muslim students and their families but also for the schools that Muslim students attend. Admittedly, we don’t have great data on the numbers of students that are affected. However, my observations lead me to conjecture that Muslim students are more concentrated in MCPS’ consortium and consortium-like high schools and their feeders. So long as the funding for public schools remains dependent upon per-pupil attendance, Muslim students and the disadvantaged schools they attend will suffer when the school calendar establishes their holiest days as school days, whether identified as such or not.
