MCPS Hired Security Guard who: "was accused of using his revolver to menace a female while working for the New York Police Department."

A Message from Dr. Jack R. Smith Regarding the Arrest of Mark Yantsos on Allegations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor
April 6, 2017
“The allegations against Mark Yantsos, the security team leader at Richard Montgomery High School, are disturbing. As Principal Monteleone stated in his letter to the community (included below), the behavior described in the charging document “represents an irreparable breach of trust, ethics and the law.” Any adult who abuses their position and takes advantage of our students has no place in our schools or community.
“Additionally, it has come to our attention that in 1994, Mr. Yantsos was accused of using his revolver to menace a female while working for the New York Police Department. We have provided this information to the police.
“The safety of our students is paramount. In 2015, the Montgomery County Board of Education updated its policy regarding child abuse and neglect. Central to the updated policy are new practices, procedures and protocols to ensure students have a safe environment in which to learn. This includes:
• updated mandatory training of all full-time employees on recognizing and reporting child abuse; and
• the development of the Employee Code of Conduct, a document that summarizes the standards of conduct that MCPS and the broader community expect employees to follow.
We remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure all of our students are in a safe environment.”

  1. Security Team Leader arrested for sex abuse of a minor...
Haven't we all had enough of this. You can't turn on the TV without hearing about yet another sexual predator in an MCPS school. Whatever happened to background checks? Whoever is responsible for vetting these perverts should be FIRED.

    1. This is the Board of Education that you elected. The Apple Ballot voters of Montgomery County continually put the same people back on the Board of Education, so this must be the school system that the people want.

    2. More like ROTTEN APPLE ballot.

    3. Has anyone run a background check on the BOE?

  2. Not only was he employed at MCPS, he was also a coach for a girls AAU basketball team.
The Board of Education has failed once again to protect children under their care.

  3. "... was accused of using his revolver to menace ..." They mistook it for hands on experience.

  4. “MCPS SECURITY TEAM LEADER CHARGED WITH SEX OFFENSE”

    YANTSOS WAS:

“…a Security team leader at Richard Montgomery High School”

“…he served as Richard Montgomery High School’s girls’ varsity basketball coach…”

“…Yantsos has been employed with MCPS since 2007”

    RECENTLY YANTSOS:

“…had engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with a student at the high school where he worked.”

“Yantsos bought the victim a phone in order to communicate with her during and after school hours.”

“Yantsos picked her up from her Rockville home and drove to a hotel where they engaged in inappropriate contact.”

“…the allegations described in the charging documents are despicable and represent an irreparable breach of trust, ethics and the law.”

    [and who knows what else?]

AND LONG BEFORE MCPS HIRED HIM IN 1994, YANTSOS (you can Google it)

“…was arrested on a charge of menacing after he was accused of drawing his gun on a waitress and dancer during an early-morning argument in a topless bar where the off-duty officer had been drinking.”

“…is accused of using his revolver to menace a 30-year-old female employee of the Happy Go Lucky Bar…”

“…Yantsos, who was off duty, had been drinking heavily at the bar, downing from 10 to 15 shots of tequila.”

YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!

  5. "• updated mandatory training of all full-time employees on recognizing and reporting child abuse;" HAS THE PART-TIME EMPLOYEE LOOPHOLE BEEN EMBEDDED IN THE MOCO CULTURE?

  6. "Any adult who abuses their position and takes advantage of our students has no place in our schools or community." Is the legal community in agreement with this?

  7. Don't worry, I'm SURE that Dr. Zuckerman has everything under control... Doesn't security fall under his leadership?

  8. Time to update the plan again and include a re-check of all (not just full time) current staff to ensure nothing was missed during the hiring/promotion process?

    1. The Board of Education refuses to check all current employees. Instead, they have implemented the "honor" system. If you have something that the BOE should know, it is up to you to tell them. If you don't tell them, then they might get mad at you. This is the new policy that MCPS COO Andrew Zuckerman has implemented.

    2. This would go against MD law that provides immunity to part time staff.
