MCPS Board of Education Denies Daly ES Students Free Public Education #poverty #FARMS #extortion #AppleBallot

"...at Daly, some third-graders need help paying the $5 fee for the recorders they use in music class..."

It is 2017, but the Montgomery County Board of Education still refuses to abide by the Maryland Constitution and offer all public school students a free education
This recent article in Bethesda Magazine (link below) about Daly Elementary School in Germantown notes that the children are being required to pay a fee to participate in their music class.  That is an illegal fee and in violation of the Maryland Constitution's guarantee of a free public education for public school students.
In Maryland, everything connected with the curriculum is to be provided to students for free.  One day, maybe progressive Montgomery County will follow the law.

  1. Again, Parents Coalition shoes anti-MCEA bias. What place does “ #appleBallot “ have regarding this article?

    1. Again it is the Apple Ballot endorsed Board of Education that is denying public school children their right to a free public education.

If the Apple Ballot is going to endorse candidates, the public should know what kind of candidates are being supported. Voters need to know walking in to the ballot box that Apple Ballot candidates do not honor or respect the Maryland Constitution.

  2. Uh, the students keep the $5.00 recorder. I suppose you think it is better that MCPS check out each student a recorder, like a textbook, and then collect it back and reuse it next year? Yuck.

    1. Uh, they keep papers too, so you would like them charged for each piece of paper they bring home? We know that is Pat O'Neill's school system, but that is not what Maryland's Constitution guarantees. In Maryland, if you give a child a recorder as part of a public school class it is free. The cost of the recorder is what our taxes provide as part of a free public education.

So explain to our readers this riddle: You are in favor of children paying for music class, but fine with Board of Education member Rebecca Smondrowski spending $15,000 of MCPS Operating money without even turning in expense reports?

By the way, Rebecca Smondrowski's spendthrift ways blew through enough cash to pay for 3,000 recorders for elementary school children. But the children should pay so that Smondrowski can spend school dollars on herself?

    2. Surgical tools are used from one operation to the next. It's called antiseptic.

  3. And this is Judy Docca's district. Ms. Docca can spend over $500 on a taxi ride on the school dime but kids have to come up with $5 music class that is required.
