Senators grill Instagram CEO and raise concerns about app's negative impact on teens

On Capitol Hill, Instagram is in the hot seat after recent research showing social media’s negative impact on teens.

On Wednesday, Instagram’s CEO announced what the company is doing to better protect teens on its platform, including a new “take a break” feature and more parental controls. But several lawmakers say that’s not enough.

“We should have a federal privacy law,” said U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar. “How could we have this great change in our economy and not even have a privacy law for people for their stuff online?”
