The Maryland legislature and the Montgomery County Board of Education have not authorized the charging of any fees for attendance at MCPS graduations. There are no legal senior dues or fees to attend Montgomery County Public Schools. That fact becomes clear when a comparison of high schools shows that some MCPS high schools don't have any senior dues or graduation fees.
As the Parents' Coalition has shown over the years, Kennedy High School students are charged the highest "senior dues."
If any Montgomery County Board of Education members would like to explain why Kennedy High School students have been targeted for these illegal fees, we would be happy to post their explanation.

ReplyDeleteNo relationship. These illegal fees are not recorded in the MCPS Operating Budget documents. These illegal fees go into the principal's slush fund account and the totals are not made public. There is no public information on what these illegal fees are used for. But we know for sure they are not used to pay teacher salaries or build schools.
DeleteCaps and gowns aren't free. As an MCPS grad myself, I had to pay for my cap and gown. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the "Senior Does" are also to help pay for prom.
ReplyDeleteWhy be surprised? Why don't you find where any fees are legally permitted for graduation. Everything costs money, that's why the Maryland Constitution and the Maryland legislature have established a system of free public schools so that there is equal access for all children.
DeleteNow do simple clicking and find out where these fees and dues are authorized under the Maryland Constitution. MCPS has routinely been illegally charging students fees for years and the Parents' Coalition has consistently exposed those illegal fees and seen a 70% reduction in those illegal fees. MCPS knows they are illegal, but as all good scammers will do, keeps charging them until they get caught.
