Better Food at MCPS Meeting Nov 7, 8-9:30 PM

A new advocacy group has formed to work towards better, healthier food at MCPS.  From one of the co-founders, Karen Devitt:

We are forming a parent advocacy group to work on the school food issue in Montgomery County.  We are using an already-existing yahoo group as a base for communication: MCPS_Better_Food@yahoogroups.com

So far we have parents representing 20 different elementary, middle, and high schools.  We are looking for at least one parent from each of the 202 schools in the county to share their expertise and passion for this issue, and who would be willing to post emails from our advocacy group to their school's listserv about a variety of topics, including but not limited to:  opting out of school snacks; teachers rewarding children with food; free water in the cafeteria; sugar in the schools; vending machines; and processed food.  If you are part of a wellness committee or wellness group in your school, or just a lone crusader, please consider joining us.

Our first general meeting is this Wednesday, November 7, 2012, from 8-9:30 pm at Eggspectations in downtown Silver Spring 923 Ellsworth Drive (P: 301-585-1700).  For more information, contact Karen Devitt at kmdevitt@yahoo.com

Thank you.
