It's taken over 14 arrests and a damning Maryland State Board of Education Opinion, but Superintendent Joshua Starr is finally going to address the issue of students that have been sexually assaulted by MCPS staff. 



Superintendent to hold Media Availability about Child Abuse
December 4, 2014 Superintendent of Schools Joshua P. Starr will hold a media availability at 4:00 p.m. TODAY (Thursday, December 4, 2014) to discuss how allegations of child abuse are handled by Montgomery County Public Schools.

The availability will be held at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, in Rockville in front of the building near the flagpole.

MCPS Substitute Plead Guilty to Sex Abuse of Minor, Sex Offense Third Degree and Child Porn Solicitation on May 15th

On May 15, 2014, Daniel Mandel Sirotkin plead guilty on 3 separate counts involving inappropriate contact with students. 

Did any of the media cover the Montgomery County Circuit Court the day the plea was entered? Anyone? 

Mr. Sirotkin will be sentenced on August 6, 2014. (Can the media mark their calendars now for this hearing?)

Daniel Mandel Sirotkin arrested for sex offenses against teenager | WJLA.com

ABC7 has confirmed Sirotkin was a substitute teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools from Feb. 2007 until Nov. 2012. A school district spokeswoman confirmed he worked at 20 buildings during his tenure. Those schools included Albert Einstein High School, Clarksburg High School, Goshen Elementary School, Thomas Wootton High School and Walter Johnson High School.

MCPS Substitute Teacher Arrested - Daniel Mandel Sirotkin

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you that a private tutor and private athletic coach who worked with students in Montgomery County and elsewhere was arrested Tuesday on charges of inappropriate conduct with a teenager. The man arrested served as a substitute at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. He has not been a substitute at our school or any other MCPS school for more than a year. He did substitute at B-CC HS in 2010 and none of the conduct that led to the current charges was related to his work as a substitute teacher.

Please read the press release from the Montgomery County Police Department, which I have linked to below, and contact the police immediately if you have any information that would be helpful to their investigation. The staff at our school and throughout MCPS take the safety and security of our students very seriously. In fact, it was a report by a student to an MCPS administrator at another school that led to the police getting involved. If you ever have any information regarding the safety and security of our students, I urge you to contact me, the police or Montgomery County Child Protective Services as quickly as possible.
