On September 21, 2009, the Montgomery County Council's Education Committee will meet to discuss and vote on the Board of Education requests to declare MCPS funds surplus and move the funds to other categories.
Included in the MCPS memo on this issue is that $4.6 million in MCPS Textbook & Instructional Funds for the 2008-09 school year were declared surplus to the needs of your child's classroom by the Board of Education.
Your child's classroom had everything it needed last year, right?

Odd that the Council schedules discussion of the FY2009 MCPS budget surplus for Sept. 21.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand the law, MCPS must report its money transfers for balancing the budget within 30 days of the end of the fiscal year and each fiscal month. The County Council has 30 days to act or it is considered to be approved (Maryland Education Articles Section 5-105). The BOE did submit its year end money transfers & balances within the 30 days, and therefore the Council is at least 21 days LATE in scheduling any discussion.
Another example of the real value we are receiving from our elected officials???
