Montgomery students score better on AP exams sub: Hispanic students continue to slump Washington Examiner

...Even as Hispanic students took more AP exams, and passed more of them than in previous years, the percentage of those who passed fell to 55 percent, down one point from 2008 and 11 points from 2005...

  1. I began looking at the stats for the school in the downcounty consortium, Albert Einstein HS being my home school. I did not have the heart to go very far.

Table A3 -- Number of students who took 1 or more AP in 2009 and percentage of test-takers who earned one or more score of 3 or higher:

    Blair: 87.3%
    Einstein: 66.5%
    Kennedy: 46%
    Northwood: 51.4%
    Wheaton: 38.5%

The school listed below Wheaton, Walt Whitman (obviously not part of the downcounty consortium): 90.5%

The gap is far from being closed.

My congratulations go to the students -- the ones who are part of the "happy statistics" and the ones who try. They are the ones who deserve the credit, along with their AP teachers who work very hard with them. It's the MCPS administration that I am embarrassed about.
