I began looking at the stats for the school in the downcounty consortium, Albert Einstein HS being my home school. I did not have the heart to go very far.
ReplyDeleteTable A3 -- Number of students who took 1 or more AP in 2009 and percentage of test-takers who earned one or more score of 3 or higher:
Blair: 87.3%
Einstein: 66.5%
Kennedy: 46%
Northwood: 51.4%
Wheaton: 38.5%
The school listed below Wheaton, Walt Whitman (obviously not part of the downcounty consortium): 90.5%
The gap is far from being closed.
My congratulations go to the students -- the ones who are part of the "happy statistics" and the ones who try. They are the ones who deserve the credit, along with their AP teachers who work very hard with them. It's the MCPS administration that I am embarrassed about.
