Two Juveniles Involved in First-Degree Assault near a School
Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section are continuing to investigate a first-degree assault that occurred in the White Oak area.

On Thursday, November 4 at approximately 7:26 a.m., the 3rd District School Resource Officer was notified about a fight that had just occurred behind Springbrook High School, located at 201 Valleybrook Drive, involving a handgun.

The preliminary investigation determined that two students from the high school were involved in a fist fight off campus, but in the vicinity of the school. During the course of the fight, an individual not directly involved pulled out a handgun and pointed it at one of the participants along with several other students. This act ended the fight and the crowd dispersed. At this point, the first suspect gave the handgun to the second suspect who, in turn, chased after several of the students and pointed the weapon at them.

When school officials learned of this event, a “code blue” was initiated until it was confirmed that neither suspect nor the weapon was on school grounds.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified the first suspect as Tavon Body, 17 years old, of the 3900 block of Ballet Way in Burtonsville. He was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

The second suspect was identified as Ladonta Wright, 17 years old, of the 15000 block of Sugar Pine Way in Burtonsville. On Friday, November 5, detectives executed a search warrant at his residence. Wright was not home at the time and is believed to be in Virginia. An arrest warrant is on file charging him as an adult with armed robbery, first-degree assault, robbery, second-degree assault, and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence.
