Three Steps to an Artificial Turf Field at Your School According to Michael Doran

1.  Schedule a concert for the school athletic field.

2.  Plan for 3000 guests sitting on the field, don't worry about using those pesky stadium seats.  Also pray for a bit of rain, so the field will really be destroyed.

3.  Go to the County Council and the Maryland National Parks and Planning Commission and beg for a new artificial turf field because of the poor condition of your field.

Ooops, the school has already started begging for the field.  You can read the comments here.  Someone forgot to tell the players about the gameplan.

I knew there must be something more to the politically so incorrect  Wootton HS-TunedIn Rock the Vote concert cosponsored by B'Nai Brith Youth Organization.

  2. The concert is going to be in the parking lot because there is a slight chance of rain. To say that this whole thing is put together to get a new turf field is absurd.

    1. Is that mcps math? 50% chance of rain is slight?

    2. Not absurd at all. The damage to this field would have been in the order of $50,000. That's Bermuda grass on the Wootton stadium field. 3,000 students tromping around on the field would have done permanent damage to that county asset. That's why MCPS football fields aren't available for rent, by anyone. The cost to repair them is not on MCPS' priority list. Principals know this and don't rent out their fields.

    3. Really? When Wootton hosted Rock the Vote 4 years ago, it was an amazing, informative, fun evening for both students and parents! I expect the same for this evening. Let the negativity go!

    4. Would you please go tell that to the neighbors who have had to leave their homes because their pets can't take the vibration/noise from the amplifiers? The sound check is already shaking homes, rattling windows and agitating pets.

Oh, yes and where was that waiver of the Noise Ordinance? No where. This concert is a flat out violation of Montgomery County's Noise Ordinance. Guess we can assume that no laws will apply this evening, so let the attendees do whatever they desire?

What other laws would you like to see the teens violate this evening?

  3. I bet there is not a single neighbor who had to leave their homes because their "pets can't take the vibrations." The majority of the neighbors could not even hear the music. I truly hope no pets were hurt and no families had to leave their homes because the sound was too much to bear...

    1. You lose that bet. So what do we win?

Neighbors LOST their RIGHT to the "peaceful enjoyment" of their property. But that's OK, right? It's OK to trample on the rights of neighbors if it is done by MCPS?

From the Montgomery County Noise Ordiance (which was violated on Saturday April 28, 2012 at Wootton High School.)

"The County Council finds that excessive noise harms public health and welfare and impairs enjoyment of property. The intent of this Chapter is to control noise sources to protect public health and welfare and to allow the peaceful enjoyment of property."
