For the Class of ’12, employers still have the upper hand


Slow recovery, tight job market leave many graduates scrambling

...For college graduates between ages 20 and 24, the national unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in the first quarter, down from 8.8 percent last year, according to federal labor figures. Some 19 percent of young grads were underemployed last year, working fewer hours than they would prefer.
The unemployment rate among all young people up to age 25 was 12.8 percent in Maryland in 2011, down from 15.5 percent in 2010. The state rate last year was lower than the national average of 17.3 percent...
