2 students arrested following Maryland high school lockdown, handgun and BB gun recovered


MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A school in Montgomery County, Maryland, was on lockdown after reports of a gun on the campus. Two students were arrested, while a handgun and a BB gun were recovered around 12:55 p.m., according to county police.

Northwood High School on Old Georgetown Road was placed on a "secure" status at around 11 a.m. after reports of a person on campus with a gun. Police later determined the weapon was a toy.

Police then lifted the secure status, but placed the school on lockdown after learning of another student with a firearm at around 12:20 p.m...

7th grader shot in thigh by classmate with BB gun in Silver Spring [Silver Spring International Middle School] @mcps @mocoboe

 


The Montgomery County Police Department was called to Silver Spring International Middle School Thursday after learning that a student shot her classmate with a BB gun.

According to a statement from the principal, the student was showing off the loaded BB gun to a friend while in her 7th-grade classroom, when it accidentally discharged and struck her friend in the thigh. 

The classroom teacher immediately called school administrators and security, who confiscated the BB gun and removed both students from the classroom.

The school nurse examined the student who was shot and found no injury...

Student brings BB gun to Whitman, police respond

Montgomery County police and school security responded to reports of a student in possession of an airsoft BB gun at Walt Whitman High School today, Principal Robert Dodd wrote in an email to community members this afternoon.

School officials contacted police after a student alerted administrators that a firearm was potentially present in the school building, Dodd told The Black & White. The student showed the weapon to another student but did not threaten anyone, he said. 

“We were able to ascertain that it was a facsimile weapon,” Dodd said. “Police took possession of the facsimile weapon, and in that process, we were able to make sure that everyone was safe and secure.

As of 1:00 p.m., the student in question was no longer on the school’s campus, the principal said...
