The Montgomery County Board of Education will be meeting on Friday, January 23, 2015, for three hours to discuss someone's employment contract.
Who will the Board of Eduction be discussing for three hours and why is it a secret meeting?
Remember a Closed Meeting is a choice! The Board of Education is not required by law to hold Closed Meetings. Maryland law allows boards to hold a Closed Meeting if the members of the board vote to hold such a session. If the Montgomery County Board of Education wanted to hold this discussion in an Open Meeting, they could.
The Board of Education will have to meet in an Open session first on Friday and vote to go into a Closed session. Will the vote to go into a Closed session be unanimous?

Cape Henry Collegiate Proudly Announces New Head of School
Dear Members of the Cape Henry Collegiate Community,
On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee and the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher S. Garran to the position of Head of Cape Henry Collegiate effective July 1, 2015. The appointment of Dr. Garran marks the culmination of a thorough search conducted following the announcement of the retirement of Cape Henry’s current Head of School, Dr. John P. Lewis. After careful consideration of many top candidates, the Search Committee and Board of Trustees voted unanimously in support of Dr. Garran’s appointment. The Search Committee offers its deep appreciation to the parents, faculty, staff, alumni, Trustees, and students who contributed meaningfully to the process at every step.
Dr. Garran possesses more than 20 years of experience in education. He currently serves as Associate Superintendent for Montgomery County Schools, Maryland, one of the top school systems in the country, where he supervises, coaches, supports the leadership, and manages the budgets for 29 schools with a combined enrollment of 50,000 students. Dr. Garran has led the district in examining student outcome data in order to design school and system strategic improvement plans. Much of his work has focused on curriculum alignment as well as project-based, team-centered, and personalized learning. He has also developed and supported extensive professional development for faculty and school leaders and has led the search and evaluation processes for school administrators.
Previously, Dr. Garran served as teacher, department chair, and Head of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland, an award-winning school of 2,100 students and 250 faculty and staff. In this role, he guided the leadership of administrators and staff and implemented a strategic plan that helped to further Walter Johnson’s already exceptional reputation. During this time, Dr. Garran also participated in a $75 million campaign for school and campus improvements, collaborating with parent leadership to create an independent, non-profit education foundation dedicated to fundraising efforts....
