Exclusive Memo: How to Control Board of Education Members

At the June 20, 2013, Board of Education meeting held off-site (no video of this meeting) Board of Education member Shirley Brandman presented the following memo on how to control Board of Education members' questions on topics such as concussions, school gardens, elimination of styrofoam trays, dangers of substance abuse, math acceleration and bell times. You know, all those messy public school issues that the Superintendent doesn't want the elected Board of Education to discuss!

Here's BOE member Brandman's suggestion for how to keep BOE members quiet.

Young Activist Club to receive Community Hero Award

Please join the Montgomery County Civic Federation as we present the 'Community Hero Award' to the Young Activist Club of Piney Branch Elementary School on Monday, November 8th, 2010, at 7:45 pm. The meeting is at the Montgomery County Council Building, 100 Maryland Ave., 1st Floor Auditorium, Rockville.

What The Washington Post said about the Parents' Coalition

The coalition might be the best-known parent advocacy group in the region. Its members represent several constituencies, including parents of special education and gifted education students and fiscal watchdogs. The group's defining victory came this school year when the school system scaled back the fees charged to families for course materials.

Coalition leaders have drawn attention to the misuse of funds collected from students for activities, the broadcast of a commercial radio service on school buses and, with their "Weast Watch" blog, the travel habits of Weast and his lieutenants.
