Five Teens In Custody, Four Stolen Vehicles Recovered Following Traffic Collision

Gaithersburg, MD – A 13-year-old, three 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old have been arrested and four stolen vehicles have been recovered following a collision that occurred at the intersection of Heathfield Drive and Parkland Drive on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District and Special Assignment Team responded to the location for the report of a collision, where multiple teenagers were seen running from the area.

When officers arrived on scene, they located three vehicles idling, but unoccupied. All three vehicles, one Kia and two Hyundais, were determined to be stolen.

While on scene of the collision, officers observed a dark colored Kia speed away from the area with multiple people inside. The Kia stopped at Weller Road and five teenagers were seen getting out. Officers were able to quickly determine that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

All five teens were apprehended and taken into custody without incident. Upon their arrest, they were found to be in possession of items of evidentiary value, including knives and tools used to break into cars.

The teens were transported to the 4th District, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and released to their guardians.

Former school athletic director gets 4 months in jail in racist AI deepfake case


BALTIMORE (AP) — A former high school athletics director accused of using artificial intelligence to create a racist and antisemitic deepfake of a Maryland principal has been sentenced to four months in jail as part of a plea deal for disrupting school operations.

Dazhon Darien, 32, accepted the deal Monday in Baltimore County Circuit Court, records show. He entered an Alford plea to the single misdemeanor charge, which means he acknowledged the evidence against him without directly admitting guilt. His original charges included theft, stalking and retaliating against a witness...

2 arrested after fight, gunshots led to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High lockdown

...On Thursday, Maryland-National Capital Park Police arrested a juvenile for gun-related charges and 18-year-old Nicholas Paolo Blanco on multiple charges related to the incident.

In a letter to school families, Principal Shelton Mooney said that around 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, a member of the community alerted the school that gunshots were heard in a nearby park. School staff then notified emergency personnel and police.

The people involved in the fight dispersed after the sound of gunshots and the school then went into lockdown mode out of an abundance of caution.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

After reviewing footage of the fight, Mooney said, it was determined that some of the people involved were students at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Mooney said...

Parents confront Northwest High School officials over delayed notification of student’s gun arrest

..."It's just kind of crazy. Parents are really upset... it's really messy!" said April Stone, a concerned parent. 

Another parent who attended Tuesday night's meeting, Yuki Nakandakri, expressed similar frustration, saying, "I came for answers, now I got more questions."

Students attending the meeting also left unsettled. 

Alvaro Nakandakri, a junior, said, "There is no knowing what their intention was – it does bother me."..

Montgomery Co. reports uptick in students arrested on school grounds

At least thirteen students were arrested on the grounds of Montgomery County Public Schools in the most recent school year — up from three during the academic year prior.

The data was shared by school officials in a presentation on student well-being and safety during a June 27 Board of Education meeting. Eight of the students arrested during the 2022-2023 school year were Black, and five were white, according to county data. The data doesn’t cite what the students were arrested for.

Some school board members expressed frustration that Hispanic students weren’t included in the data...

Montgomery Co. parent says bodycams show police abuse, threaten child inside school


The parent of a Montgomery County Public Schools student is suing both the school system and the county police department following an incident in 2020 involving her Maryland child.

Parent Shanta Grant, who filed the lawsuit, said her son was able to walk away from East Silver Spring Elementary last year without being noticed. She said once police found the boy, about two-tenths of a mile away, officers were verbally abusive, threatening, and even put a handcuff on the child once he was taken back to the school...
