At the October 13, 2009, MCPS Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Jerry Weast announced that he would not be attending the Thursday evening, October 15th MCPS Operating Budget forum where parents and community members speak about budget priorities. Here is what Superintendent Weast said:
However, the Parents' Coalition has learned that Superintendent Weast is on a plenary panel at the Wallace Foundation invitation-only conference in Washington, D.C. on Thursday morning, not Thursday evening.
So why won't Superintendent Weast be attending the Thursday evening MCPS Operating Budget forum? What is more important than hearing from parents and community members in a year when a spending freeze is already in effect?
A Wallace Foundation representative has confirmed that participation on a panel this morning was Dr. Weast's only commitment at the conference.
