Sorry, April Fools Again!
This time it is DeKalb County in Georgia that has announced the names of the 3 finalists for the Superintendent of schools position.
Look at this - public presentations by the candidates and questions from the public! Click the link to find out more:
Don't worry. This kind of transparency won't happen here in Montgomery County.
Our school board and 14 citizens will be meeting with our candidates at a super secret location. Only 2 of the citizens selected have made their invitations public. What about the other twelve?
And where is this super secret location?
Stay tuned!

I understand the desire for transparency but I can also see the benefit for candidates not having their current employers know that they are looking at other opportunities. How many of us would want our current boss to know that we are seeking a better offer, especially if we may not get it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for weighing in from Belgium! Great to have people all around the world interested in our school system. Here in Montgomery County, Maryland we pay our superintendent upwards of half a million dollars in salary and benefits. Big compensation means big risks.
ReplyDeleteJerry Weast has had no problem applying for a job a Chicago's next superintendent. That job has a number of takers. In many jurisdictions the law requires that the names of the candidates be released. It's called transparency. And it exists because it is spending the taxpayers dollars.
Don't want the job? Move on. Because if you get the job we are only going to expect more of the same. Might as well start by being upfront with the public.
