MCPS Board of Education Handbook |
Why not when the school system has a $18.8 MILLION SURPLUS!
Odds are the LUNCH will be paid for by taxpayers. Probably charged on a MCPS American Express card. Catered or dine in at a restaurant? Appetizers? Wine with the meal? Dessert?
It must be nice to be able to take off the afternoon and "lunch" rather than deal with public school business.
7.0 Monthly Financial Report
Title is misleading! There's actually at least $31.1M surplus!
ReplyDeleteReading the memo carefully:
$19.2M FY2012 'projected surplus' + $11.9M FY2011 'unused surplus' (why is that?!) =
$31.1M unappropriated funds available for MCPS FY13 operating budget!
Thanks! We will be doing more on the MCPS surpluses!
DeleteThe title was just what the Board was going to spend on lunch...
How much do we pay BOE members? I couldn't find this anywhere readily.
ReplyDeleteA whopping $18,500 per year. They're truly public servants to get so little for putting up with so much.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a salary, it's a stipend for expenses. The position of Board of Education in Montgomery County is an elected position. No one is forced into this office, as far as we know!
ReplyDeleteThe office actually comes with specific requirements of what the position entails. One of the jobs of the Board of Education is to determine the BUDGET. And they don't even do that.
I think the BOE members are also able to sign on to the primo health care plan. That's a benefit worth a whole lot of money.
ReplyDeleteThe BoE's website says that Maryland law says that the BoE's job is to ADOPT Budgets. Why do you think they don't do that, Janis? I'm honestly curious if you think the BoE's shirking their legal responsibiliy regarding the budget.
ReplyDeleteThe BOE "website" says what the Board wants it to say and is not a legal source.
ReplyDeleteMaryland law actually says the Board will PREPARE the budget. Yes, not preparing the budget is not doing their job.
