June 26-29, 2012, MCPS' Director of Enriched and Innovative Programs Martin (Marty) Creel will be attending the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Convention at the Minneapolis Hilton. Here's the summary of his presentation:
...While researchers are struggling to provide concrete guidance around teaching and assessment of these skills, districts and schools around the country are searching for ways to bring 21st century skills within their students’ grasp. This session proposes to showcase several districts/states taking a proactive and innovative approach to integrating 21st century skills or standards for college and career readiness into their curriculum and assessment systems. Montgomery County Public Schools have created an integrated, digital K-5 curriculum that incorporates Thinking and Academic Success Skills (TASS), such as critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. They are currently working with Pearson to design a series of performance-based assessments (PBAs) to capture student competence in the TASS...And check out who is moderating this Session! A Pearson employee! No non-Pearson questions, please!
