“I don’t think we are ever going to balance our budget on the back of student fees

School fees a growing burden for families

  1. We also don't balance budgets by cutting energy taxes so anyone who's concerned about school fees should oppose the Ficker amendment on election day.

Huge sums are paid to the county due to the large amount of energy required by government complexes like NIH. Cut energy taxes and they'll come back in a way the Fed won't have to pay, like school fees.

Low taxes are great (who DOESN'T want low taxes?), but Virginia found out that great school systems are not held together with fairy dust and "confidence".

Complaints about government waste are limited in effect. Just because you cut taxes doesn't mean the waste is what gets cut. SOMEONE put the waste there and they may be better advocates than those supporting worthier programs. I wish it weren't so, but optimism without cause is dangerous.

    1. School fees are illegal in Maryland.

The Maryland Constitution guarantees all public school children a FREE public education. Any public school class fees paid by parents/guardians in Montgomery County are extortion.
Money paid local schools for "class fees" does not go in to the Operating Budget. The money does not pay for teachers or buildings. The money is a slush fund for administrators to play with.

Montgomery County can not ever impose public school fees as our public schools are state institutions.
