Superintendent Joshua Starr just took a 2 week vacation at the end of July, but he's off again for another vacation this month.
School is back in session for the 2013-2014 school year and Superintendent Starr is heading out again. He's going to China from September 15th - 25th and taking some principals with him. Apparently, MCPS and local schools don't need these administrators to function.
Will the MCPS administrators going on this trip be taking their personal MCPS American Express credit cards with them?
Superintendent Starr will miss the September 23, 2013, Board of Education meeting. Apparently, he's not essential for these meetings either.
Fiddling as Rome burns…
ReplyDelete"Much of the trip will be geared toward developing relationships and attracting funding for Montgomery’s biotech industry, one of the main types of industry in the county."
ReplyDeleteIt is particularly interesting that the reporter does not ask what the reasoning is for MCPS staff to be participating in this junket. I for one would definitely like to know, and it seems to be a fairly obvious question.
Besides, Starr already has more than enough "relationship work" to do here in Montgomery County, even just in MCPS itself, and so does not need to go all the way to China to find this type of work. However, I grant that the work here is a lot less "sexy", and it probably would not lend itself to Twitter posts.
