At last night's Board of Education worksession, MCPS Chief Operating Officer Andrew Zuckerman said he was "sick of hearing" how Fairfax County had so many artificial turf football fields.
Well, Mr. Zuckerman, the MCPS public is sick of MCPS administrators covering up the truth about the cost of artificial turf!
Let's start with this FACT from Fairfax County:
Fairfax County makes each high school booster club commit to paying $15,000 a year as funding for the future replacement costs. The current model that Fairfax County is using to fund artificial turf fields is not sustainable and so they are looking at options going forward.
One of the options on the table is to increase the booster club mandatory contribution to $20,000 a year.
MCPS high school booster clubs on board with raising an additional $20,000 a year to put in the bank for future plastic grass replacement?
There are many interesting facts in this Fairfax County report, but do not miss the fact that Fairfax pays way less for a plastic grass football field than Montgomery County pays. Why exactly is it that plastic grass is so much cheaper on the other side of the Potomac River?
If he can't stand the heat, he get out of the kitchen
ReplyDeleteFYI - All of the school AD's are putting out to their communities about a hearing tonight:
ReplyDeleteThe superintendent has included in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for FY 2017-2022 a recommendation to install artificial turf fields at the 19 high schools that currently do not have artificial surface fields. His recommendation is to include $11,000,000 in the CIP for the specific purpose of installing the turf fields. The superintendent’s plan also includes developing partnerships with private businesses to assist in the funding - $11,000,000 is not enough to do all 19 schools.
The hearings are 11/09/15 and 11/12/15 at 7:00 pm;
Process for Speaking
* For MCPS BOE hearings, call 301-279-3617 to request to provide testimony (Speaking list is now full)
* Hearings on the CIP are November 9 and 12, 7:00 p.m.
MCPS has already announced there are no more partnerships to be had. That ship sailed. Now it is up to parents. Parents in Fairfax pay around $20,000 per year to use these fields. The Wheaton High School booster club better get started on their fundraising, right?
