WJLA TV: Concern over radon levels in MCPS schools prompts PTA meeting, discussion

Reading, writing, and radon?

You saw the story First on ABC7 last week about the elevated levels of radon in some Montgomery County schools.

There has been a large turnout for the PTA meeting Tuesday night at Fallsmead Elementary School in Rockville where parents are concerned about radon test results.

  1. An internal audit? Are you kidding? They are going to cover as best they can.

  2. Sean Gallagher with MCPS Facilities Management told the crowd. "The best we can do at this point is to do what we should have done in 2012." One school, Rock View, was last tested in 1999.

  3. "If I may hold MCPS to the same standard that we hold our second graders, I'm wondering is there going to be an internal inquiry audit as to how that mistake happened, to prevent it from happening in the future," Fallsmead guidance counselor Rebecca Kotok told school officials." Ms. Kotok, are you going to hold your MCEA leadership to the same standard? Will there be an internal inquiry audit into MCEA leadership, who must have known about this as they work hand-in-glove with the elected Board of Education?

    1. In another dimension 'hibernating' as all of our elected officials. They come out of their 'coma' every four years to run for office.
