Montgomery County reviewing Hogan’s order to limit authority on school closures

Montgomery County’s top health official said Wednesday he has not rescinded his directive for schools to suspend in-person teaching despite an executive order from Gov. Larry Hogan stating that private schools should have sole authority on when and how to reopen.
County health officer Travis Gayles declined to say how long the county would take to review the governor’s order. He emphasized he stood by his view that it is not safe for schools of any kind to reopen, given the prevalence of coronavirus in the state’s largest jurisdiction.
“We are continuing to evaluate the impact of the governor’s executive order on the directive that has been put out there,” Gayles said. “As it currently stands, it has not been rescinded.”..
