...Former county police chief Marcus Jones, who is now MCPS’ Security and Compliance Chief, said on Wednesday they are in the "early stages" of researching metal detectors. Jones revealed they’re talking with school districts that already have the security tool to see what their experiences have been like.
Officials warned that this is something that will have to be budgeted for. They’ll also have to review how to build the use of metal detectors into the school day, especially at the county’s larger high schools.

Metal detectors are not the end all and be all that they appear. Many hurdles to overcome. Blair has 3000 students with two main entrances to let students in. How many metal detectors will they get. With metal detectors, you need more staffing because people have to staff those, and you still need staff to patrol the school during arrival time. Also, two problems that occur with these devices. They don't stop someone from going to a back door and opening it to get a gun from someone on the outside. Or someone passing a gun through a first floor window during the school day.
