Montgomery County’s proposed budget supports schools, holds tax rates

...Funding in Leggett’s budget is also going toward fighting gang activity at the state’s attorney’s office, public safety, supporting government employee health care and diversifying and drawing new business.
But the clear winner was the school system, which saw a total fulfillment of its more than three percent increased funding request in the proposal.
“In recognition of the critical needs of our growing world-class school system, I am recommending Montgomery County Public Schools funding at $2.592 billion … This is $19 million above the maintenance of effort level. This represents 100 percent of Board of Education’s request,” Leggett said...

It's the Budgetpalooza! Feb 13, 7pm...

The  Montgomery County Civic Federation is teaming again with the Montgomery County Taxpayers League and the Parents' Coalition of Montgomery County for the Fifth Annual Budgetpalooza!

Each year we go through the MCPS Operating Budget in depth, this year, for FY18 the proposed budget is $2.5BILLION. That is half of our entire county budget. Help us find out where the money is proposed to go.

FY 18 County Executive Budget Forums


Montgomery County Executive Leggett is holding five budget forums to seek input from residents about Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) Operating Budget priorities.   All forums will begin at 7:00 pm.
 
-  Monday, January 9 at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda.
-  Wednesday, January 11, Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring
-  Wednesday, January 18, Mid-County Community Recreation Center, 2004 Queensguard Road, Silver Spring
-  Wednesday, January 25, Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place, Silver Spring
-  Monday, January 30, BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown
The County Executive will announce his Recommended FY18 Operating Budget on March 15. The County Council approves the operating budget at the end of May.
Sign language interpreter services will be provided only upon request with notice as far in advance as possible, but no less than 72 hours prior to the event.
