Security guard facing charges for showing porn to student at Earle B. Wood Middle School *** March 2018, Daughtry pleaded guilty to sex solicitation charges in Washington D.C.

In December, the student told detectives that Daughtry was his supervisor that day and no one else was in the classroom. At some point, the student asked Daughtry about his job and if he had any others. That’s when Daughtry said he also worked as a security guard at a D.C. nightclub. The victim told detectives Daughtry then pulled out his phone and showed photos and videos of naked women and people having sex. https://www.fox5dc.com/news/security-guard-facing-charges-for-showing-porn-to-student-at-earle-wood-middle-school

Two families in @MCPS @mocoboe allege their children were extensively exposed to pornography as they used their school-issued laptops amid the pandemic

...The families are unacquainted and live in different areas of the sprawling county...

...The younger child, 9 years old, accessed hundreds of pornographic sites through Twitter, which his parents discovered Nov. 11 in the Web browser history of his school account, according to the five-page letter of complaint filed on the families’ behalf by attorney Timothy F. Maloney...

...The older student, age 11, used the search engine Ecosia to get to sites with pornographic images, according to the letter. His parents said that he accessed the materials for more than six weeks and that at least one website asked for his name and other personal details. They discovered the problem last week when they examined his browser history...

POOLESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR SHARING ‘EXPLICIT IMAGES’ ON HIS SCREEN

Montgomery County Public School officials are investigating an incident at Poolesville High School in which a teacher shared “inappropriate content” on his screen at the beginning of class.

According to Poolesville Principal Mark Carothers, during seventh period on Oct. 2, the teacher “had inappropriate content up on his screen.” In a letter home to school families, Carothers noted, “The content included explicit images and language.”

Besides students in his class, other students also saw the images, according to Carothers, because, “Many students saw this content and took pictures or screenshots of the images.” These pictures then were passed around via text messages and social media...

Court of Special Appeals: Child porn includes images sent by the child

A 16-year-old who texted a video of herself engaging in a consensual sexual act with an adult was “involved” in distributing child pornography and not protected by the constitutional right to free speech, Maryland’s second-highest court ruled this week.
In its reported, 3-0 decision, the Court of Special Appeals rejected arguments from the girl’s attorney that Maryland’s prohibition on child pornography does not apply when a child is both the willing subject and distributor of the material. The court also refuted claims the child has a First Amendment right to distribute photos of herself...

Superintendent Jack R. Smith Sends Countywide Letter on New Arrest of Somerset ES Parent

Friday, April 13, 2018, 6:34 PM

Dear MCPS Community:

I am writing to share disturbing news that impacts our community. Today, April 13, 2018, we were informed that federal agents arrested Jonathan Oldale, a Montgomery County resident and parent, on charges of production of child pornography. While the charges are connected to Mr. Oldale’s private residence, they involve dozens of school-aged children, many of whom attend MCPS schools. It is alleged that Mr. Oldale videotaped children during parties that he hosted at his home.

As you may remember, Mr. Oldale was arrested by the Montgomery County Police Department in October 2017 for conducting visual surveillance of an individual at a local gym without his/her consent. After being made aware of this arrest, MCPS immediately conducted a search of the schools where Mr. Oldale had students enrolled.  No cameras or surveillance devices were found. Additionally, we issued a no trespass order banning Mr. Oldale from all MCPS property.

According to law enforcement, Mr. Oldale has been detained.

I am outraged by this behavior and I know that our community finds the allegations in the charging documents as disturbing and upsetting as I do.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We will have Student Services staff available to provide counseling and support to students and families as needed.

Please contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation at 410-265-8080 should you have any questions or information that may be helpful to the investigation.

Sincerely,
Jack R. Smith, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Federal prosecutors say Maryland dad secretly filmed children in his bathroom

A Maryland father of two hid video cameras in his bathroom and secretly recorded at least 30 young girls as they took off their clothes or bathing suits, took showers and got dressed, federal officials said Friday.
Jonathan Oldale, 54, was accused of recording hundreds of videos, and a criminal complaint said some of the girls were recorded after playing in “splash” parties in his back yard.
“Mr. Oldale told the children that they needed to take showers before they left,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph R. Baldwin said in court Friday.
Oldale appeared Friday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt to face a charge of production of child pornography. He faces at least 15 years in prison and up to 30 years, authorities said.

During a hearing that lasted more than an hour, Oldale’s wife, Alison, spoke briefly, asking that he be allowed to stay at home with her and his children. Oldale appeared in a black T-shirt, jeans and sandals with no socks...

Popular Online Database Leads School Kids to Porn

EBSCO Information Services offers online library resources to public and private elementary, middle and high schools. But it has a dark side! EBSCO has been targeted as one of the “Dirty Dozen” posted this week by NCOSE. Out of all of the companies profiting from sexual exploitation and pornography, this one is the by far the most disturbing. In fact, NCOSE’s research has uncovered links from EBSCO online products to “torture porn sites and instructions for how young boys can pressure girls into trying dangerous sexual activities.”...

EASTON — An Easton man who won election last fall to the Talbot school board, but resigned before taking office, has been charged with having child pornography.
Harry H. Rieck III, 59, of St. Michaels Road, Easton, is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

Rieck later notified the school board of his decision not to take the oath of office and of his resignation from the board of education due to personal reasons. The three other school board members elected in November were sworn into office on Jan. 10.

BCC Special Ed Teacher Had Pornographic 28,785 Photos/795 Videos of Children - Sentenced to 45 Months in Prison

A former Montgomery County teacher will spend more than three years in prison for storing tens of thousands of pornographic photos of children on his computer.
Peter Flynn taught special needs students at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School from 1979 until September 2014, when school officials learned he was under federal investigation.
Prosecutors have said that none of the 28,785 photos and 795 videos of children on his computers showed images of students that he taught.
Flynn pleaded guilty to storing the pornography in January and was sentenced to 45 months in prison Monday. He was also ordered by Judge George Hazel to pay a $12,500 fine.

Are Montgomery schools looking for troublesome behavior by teachers?

THE ARREST of a Montgomery County music teacher for allegedly possessing child pornography has prompted the question of whether warning signs went undetected or ignored. The criminal case against the teacher is likely to provide some answers, but it’s important that Montgomery school officials conduct their own investigation to determine whether procedures were properly followed or if safeguards need to be tightened.
Lawrence Joynes, a teacher at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring, was arrested by Baltimore County authorities after a search of his Dundalk home allegedly resulted in the discovery of child pornography on his laptop computer. Since the Feb. 27 arrest, there has been concern among parents of New Hampshire Estates students that their children may have been victimized. There have been no charges to that effect but, The Post’s Donna St. George and Dan Morse reported last week, police said that some of what they described as inappropriate images confiscated from Mr. Joynes were taken inside the school. The attorney for Mr. Joynes did not return a call for comment.
Should alarm bells about the teacher’s behavior have prompted earlier action?

Parent, Teacher Complaints Brushed Aside: Washington Post Front Page

From today's Washington Post, page A-1:

Since Joynes’s Feb. 27 arrest, parents have questioned whether school administrators were watching him closely enough. Two parents said in interviews that they had told school officials about incidents they considered inappropriate. One reported that Joynes asked a child to call him “Daddy.” Another said the teacher made comments in front of second-graders about a relative being a drug addict. A third parent said at a school meeting that he had complained about Joynes, but did not describe his concern. School officials said publicly that significant action had been taken in that instance.

Two teachers said in interviews that they reported Joynes for actions they found worrisome, including locking classroom doors while he was inside with children.
***********

So, MCPS sends out the Community Superintendent to a meeting to mollify parents, who says the "complaints were handled the way they should be handled." The principal remains mum. The public relations chief (really? public relations at a meeting like this?) says MCPS will investigate....later.

Why aren't parent complaints ever taken seriously? I hope that the families at New Hampshire Estates are getting some answers from the Montgomery County Police Department, and have access to the Victim's Assistance program. They need answers....not "public relations."
