178.66 acres of school land declared surplus since 1994






For your information, here is a listing of MCPS school sites that have been declared surplus by the Board of Education.  


The yellow highlighted properties were declared surplus since 1994.

  1. What does it mean that sites are "surplus"? Are they currently being used or are they "up for grabs" by, say, another school, for instance?

  2. Surplus means they aren't in the public school inventory any more. Note the "conveyance date" on the chart.

  3. Who are they conveyed to? Is there typically an exchange ?

    1. When the Board of Education declares land surplus they hand it over to Montgomery County Government. The Board of Education gets nothing in return for handing over the land. Montgomery County Government has then been handing the land over to developers.
