  1. Solar's great, but why aren't these school sites being used for SCHOOLS??? School over-crowding is a real problem in our county. Three new middle schools would help a lot to ameliorate the problem. What's wrong with these people???

    1. Exactly - one Tweet I read earlier today from that meeting made mention of solar already being on several MCPS school roofs.

  2. These free-standing solar collection systems that MCPS is proposing for the three undeveloped sites would not meet county zoning standards, per Sec. 3.7.2.

    1. Of course not. But, MCPS doesn't abide by local zoning anyway. They are an entity of the State of MD and could not give a flip about local zoning. Have you seen any of the schools they build these days?

  3. Schools buildings may use the mandatory referral process. But commercial structures on school land (cell towers, solar collection systems, etc.) must comply with the County Zoning Ordinance.

    1. Hahaha - right. And MCPS abides by that all the time. (Nope)

That's why Wheaton High School has a 150 foot cell tower slammed up against an outside wall. Guess we all missed the compliance of the dozen cell towers with county zoning. The home next to the Woodwards Road school site must have missed a lot of meetings!
