Residents want answers about a proposal to put a 180-foot cell tower near Carderock Springs Elementary School.

  1. The tower could start out at 180 ft. but it could end up significantly taller. As part of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (H.R. 3630), Section 6409(a) of the Act (47 U.S.C. 1455(a)(1)-(2)) seems to indicate that there would be little that neighbors or even the County government could do to stop the tower from being extended higher to accommodate additional carriers that would want to co-locate.

  2. We need our public officials to establish 1000-ft Cell Tower Free Zones around MCPS schools properties, just as they established 1000-ft drug free zones around school properties. Cell towers present proven threats to our children, our schools, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
