The Allegany County school system has settled a lawsuit alleging
school personnel ignored complaints about a teacher convicted of
molesting two teenage girls.
Lawyers for the school system and the plaintiff said Tuesday the settlement prohibits them from discussing its terms.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, sued the school board in March in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. She said she was one of the girls molested in 2013 by former Mountain Ridge High School mathematics teacher Bart Mazer.
Mazer was sentenced in June to a year in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of fourth-degree sex offense.
The girl contended the school principal was told repeatedly of Mazer’s inappropriate behavior but failed to take meaningful action until the girl went to police.
