Montgomery Blair High School's student run newspaper Silver Chips has won numerous awards over the years. In the past, Silver Chips could be counted on for providing current, well researched school related news. However, in the November 2015, edition the editors printed a news article entitled "MoCo Narrows Down Superintendent Selection."
That would be a news worthy piece if it applied to Montgomery County, Maryland, however the article was discussing the superintendent selection for Montgomery County, Virginia.
With the loss of the Gazette, parents, guardians and citizens will increasingly be looking to student newspapers to report on local school news. Let's hope Silver Chips gets back on their game in the coming year.
Aren't the students who run Silver Chips the same politically savvy kids that elect the Student Member of the Board (SMOB)?
