TWO TEENS CHARGED WITH MURDER IN GERMANTOWN RECREATION CENTER SHOOTING

Two teenage boys were charged as adults with murder Thursday in connection with the shooting of three juveniles and one adult on the outdoor basketball court at Plum Gar Community Recreation Center in Germantown Aug. 18.

Axel Trejos, 20, was killed during the 10 p.m. shooting, and three others were wounded. When Montgomery County police arrived at the scene, they found four shooting victims. They were all transported to nearby hospitals.

According to Montgomery County Circuit Court documents, 14-year-old Shilen Ahmadi Wylie of Silver Spring was charged with first degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, use of a firearm in a violent crime and possession of a regulated firearm by someone under 21 years of age.

Children who are at least 14 years old and commit a crime that would make them eligible for life imprisonment if they had been an adult at the time, are charged as an adult, under Maryland law...

Neelsville Middle School SGA says students call school "prison on the hill." @mcps @mocoboe

Public Comment from Neelsville Middle School SGA students at the November 5, 2019, Board of Education Facilities and Boundary Hearing.

Students discussed the one bathroom used by boys, girls and staff (each has their own stall), the lack of an elevator for access to all floors, and the need to have one hall be used for only one way traffic among other issues with the building.

Goodbye History

Here is another sad goodbye to a valued part of Montgomery County because of budget cuts to every part of our county government, except of course the bloated MCPS budget. The Gazette reporter Andre L. Taylor writes here of the closing of The Waters House. The Waters House is the oldest house in Germantown, dating to around the late 1700s/early 1800s. For the last 10 years it was run by the Montgomery County Historical Society as a library and research center, the Waters House History Center, and was also available to be rented out for special occasions. Heritage Montgomery, the Lincoln Park Historical Foundation, and the King Barn Dairy MOOseum also use the house for their offices. No more, as the county axed the budget of the Historical Society, which now has to vacate the property and remove everything by August 1.

Meanwhile the Board of Education is crying all the way to the bank...
