Members of the County Council say the schools superintendent and others appear to have deceived them about the amount of money they needed to operate, and are calling for an investigation into spending by Montgomery County Public Schools.
The issue has led to distrust between the elected bodies that represent county government and the county’s schools.
At issue is whether school leaders hid surplus funds from the council -- which is the county government’s final fiscal authority. One board member said the council could not be trusted to spend the extra money on schools...
